Building a Bright Future: Puerto Rico International Coastal Clean-up 2020
20 October, 2020

Every year, the Ocean Conservancy organises an international coastal clean-up in 95 countries, covering around 200 areas that are cleaned with the help of many organisations and volunteers. In Puerto Rico, Scuba Dogs Society coordinates this activity across different rivers, lakes, beaches and other coastal areas.

This year, the activity was extended to different beaches in the island, and throughout three weekends, as there was a limit of 30 participants allowed at a time due to the restrictions marked by the COVID19 pandemic. Equipped with gloves and masks, the members of the Sonnedix San Juan office joined this event together with friends and family, contributing to the local efforts to position Puerto Rico among the top 20 countries with the highest voluntary movement (as per reports from Ocean Conservancy).

  • Saturday 3 October – cleaning the west coast (Espinal neighbourhood) at the municipality of Aguada- a team of 10 volunteers collected 40 pounds of trash, and a sofa
  • Saturday 10 October – cleaning the north coast at Unico beach, Dorado – a team of 8 volunteers collected 66 pounds of trash
  • Saturday 17 October – cleaning the south coast at Santa Isabel beach.
