London, UK – Sonnedix, the global solar independent power producer (IPP), has joined The Climate Pledge committing to be net-zero carbon by 2040, a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050.

The solar IPP is among the first 100 signatories of this commitment co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in September 2019. Signatories to The Climate Pledge agree to:

Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions on a regular basis.

Implement decarbonization strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.

Neutralize any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially-beneficial offsets to achieve net-zero annual carbon emissions by 2040 — a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050.

“This is a very exciting moment for Sonnedix as everything we do, and the way in which we do it, revolves around building a bright future, and ensuring we have a positive impact in the people, communities, and environments where we operate” said Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix. “We are incredibly proud of our ESG journey so far, and we are thrilled to continue with this work as a part of The Climate Pledge.”

“Integrating responsible, forward-thinking corporate policies into our daily business practices is key to us achieving sustainable growth” - affirmed Carlos Guinand, Executive Chairman of Sonnedix - “we recently published our first annual Sustainability Report, as part of our governance standards and objectives, and joining The Climate Pledge today is yet another milestone highlighting our company’s ESG efforts and long-term commitments”.

“Less than two years ago, Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge and called on other companies to reach the Paris Agreement 10 years early—today, more than 100 companies with over $1.4 trillion in global annual revenues and more than 5 million employees have signed the pledge,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO. “We are proud to stand with other signatories to use our scale to decarbonize the economy through real business change and innovation.”

Sonnedix recently published its first annual Sustainability Report, as part of their governance standards and objectives.

Sonnedix develops, builds, owns and operates solar power plants across OECD countries, with a total controlled capacity of over 3.9 GW, including a development pipeline of over 2GW. The global solar IPP currently has more than 320 solar PV plants across Italy, France, Spain, USA, Chile, South Africa and Japan, and it continues expanding its global solar platform through acquisitions and development opportunities.
