  • Sonnedix Gonerby project in Grantham will add 60MW capacity
  • Project fully contracted under Allocation Round 5 of the UK’s Contracts for Difference (CfD) mechanism, supporting the country’s energy transition and energy affordability goals
  • Inauguration ceremony of the project held on 26 June, to mark start of operations alongside local officials and community partners

London, U.K. - Sonnedix, a global renewable energy company with 12GW of total capacity, has commenced operations at Sonnedix Gonerby, a 60MW solar photovoltaic project in Grantham. The site is the second of the business’s large-scale solar plants to come into operation in the UK.

The project forms a key part of Sonnedix’s nearly 250MW project delivery pipeline in the UK. Additional projects, including the 120MW Cowley Complex, in County Durham, are set to come online in the coming weeks and months.

Sonnedix Gonerby is expected to generate 58GWh of renewable electricity each year, enough to power over 15,000 homes with 100% clean energy and avoid the emissions of 20,000 tonnes of CO₂e each year.

The project was shaped through engagement with Great Gonerby Parish and the South Kesteven District Council, and will provide a community benefit fund once operational, to support local initiatives.

Juan Fernandez, Chief Operating Officer, said: “Bringing Sonnedix Gonerby, a nearly 60MW solar project into operation shortly after Sonnedix Gammaton’s COD demonstrates the considerable momentum behind our UK portfolio. This project is another step forward as we become a key presence in the market, helping us support the country's shift to a cleaner and sustainable energy system while delivering affordable, reliable energy for our customers.”

To mark the event, Sonnedix teams held an inauguration ceremony alongside local officials and community partners on Friday, 26 June. (Photos available in attachment).

Sonnedix Gonerby is fully contracted for 15 years under Allocation Round 5 of the UK’s Contracts for Difference scheme.

Jorge Amiano Goyarrola, Chief Engineering Officer, said: “As we celebrate the start of operations at Sonnedix Gonerby, we recognise the dedication and technical excellence of the teams who delivered this project, and thank the partners whose collaboration made it possible. This project demonstrates how strong partnerships can deliver clean, reliable power while creating lasting benefits for local communities.”
