Independent Solar Power Producer Sonnedix selected Juwi – one of the world leading engineering, procurement and construction ( EPC ) companies in the field of renewable energies – as preferred EPC contractor for building the Mulilo Sonnedix Prieska PV solar park in the Northern Cape Provence. Sonnedix competed in the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) and became a preferred bidder for the 86 megawatt (MW) project. The Project co-developer is the South African company Mulilo. Financial Close is targeted to be reached by July 2014, with construction work starting shortly thereafter. Commercial operation is planned for second half of 2015.

The Mulilo Sonnedix Prieska PV solar park is Juwi largest single solar EPC project in the world, so far. ” We are looking forward to supporting our partners from Sonnedix to achieve a successful project “, says Jochen Magerfleich, COO of the Juwi Group.

Franck Constant, President of Sonnedix Solar says ” We are happy to be working with Juwi, one of the world most experienced EPC providers in the field of renewable energies to build our solar park. We feel confident that our project construction shall be in very good hands ”

Domestically and internationally, Juwi expertise in the field of EPC services is in great demand. Up until now the company has installed a capacity of more than 460 megawatt peak (MWp) in utility scale PV projects (10MWp+).

Previously, Lieberose solar park in Germany, with its 71 megawatts, has been juwi largest solar park. Mulilo Sonnedix Prieska PV solar park will be the company fifth project in South Africa and another milestone for Juwi Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd. ” We are proud to be preferred EPC for one of the six solar PV projects within the third round of the Department of Energy REIPP Programme. We will not only be the EPC contractor, but will also be providing the operations and maintenance, ” Greg Austin, Juwi South Africa Managing Director, says. According to Olivier Renon, Sonnedix South Africa Country Manager, ” We appreciate the fact that Juwi has global experience as EPC and local experience of building and synchronizing previous solar projects in South Africa”.

The main project steps are already set, ” Our team co-ordinated the plant planning, procurement, system design and bid in collaboration with our international colleagues. We are delighted to, once again, be playing a key role in adding substantial amounts of renewable energy to the South African electricity grid,” Austin continues.

Juwi also completely energized the 7MW Rust Mo 1 solar farm near Rustenburg ahead of schedule. ” This truly is a great start for South Africa energy transition towards a more sustainable and carbon-free energy production “, Austin states.

Solar power is an inexhaustible and environmentally friendly source of energy that plays an integral part of South Africa future energy supply.
